Kamisha Ford, LMFT

Kamisha Ford is the Owner of The Intimacy Group, Marriage and Family Therapy, Inc., a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Sex Therapist with over a decade of clinical experience.  She specializes in teaching couples with high levels of conflict, effective communication skills and how to create a healthy intimate and sexual relationship that works for them.  Kamisha's clients and colleagues say that she is easy to talk to and particularly, her laid back style and compassion helps her clients approach and openly discuss sensitive topics.  Her specialties include: sexual difficulties, couples therapy, sexuality, and open relationships.  

Kamisha received both her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of La Verne in Southern California.  In her generalist training, Kamisha worked with children, couples, and families presenting with a variety of clinical concerns including anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and PTSD in community mental health, schools, residential programs, and private practice, in addition to, supervising pre-licensed and licensed therapists and other mental health professionals.  She also received extensive training and education in sex therapy, and gained specialized training in working with couples and treating sexual problems.  Kamisha has observed successful outcomes in working with clients reporting sexual desire discrepancy, erectile issues, delayed ejaculation, painful intercourse, recovery from infidelity, navigating ethical non-monogamy, and coming out in mixed-orientation relationships.

In terms of her clinical style, Kamisha uses an integrative approach and intersectionality guides her practice.  Though her primary therapeutic style is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Kamisha is also grounded in using Narrative Therapy, Psychoanalytic Therapy, Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy.  She collaborates with her clients to build a strong therapeutic relationship which allows her to challenge them to examine negative thoughts and behavior patterns that worsen their current problems. 

Kamisha is also passionate about reducing the stigma of mental and sexual health in the Black community.  Her mission is to help build healthy Black families through healing from emotional, psychological, generational, and social trauma by increasing access to mental health care.  

When she's not working, Kamisha values quality time with her loved ones and community service.  For fun, she especially enjoys reading, strength training, and traveling.
